Delhi traffic police personnel issued 256 challans for violation of odd-even norms till 8 pm Monday, a sharp decline from 884 on Friday and 678 on Saturday.

A proposed auto strike that was called off late Sunday contributed to the traffic police focusing more on maintaining smooth flow of vehicles than on imposing penalties on violators on the first working day of phase II of the road-rationing scheme, said sources. The proposed auto strike had led to Delhi Police Special Branch passing on inputs to traffic counterparts about possible untoward situations, the sources added.

Senior officers in the traffic unit were asked to inform colleagues to go easy on people, but act against those who threw their weight around, or flaunted connections and got into arguments with them, said the sources.
