A 30-year-old NRI allegedly jumped off the 14th floor of a building in the Crossing Republik area of Ghaziabad on Tuesday night. The woman,identified as Ankita Singh,lived in Canada and worked as a designer. She reportedly came to India to firm up her marriage. Police officers said a suicide note had been recovered from the spot. An officer said,“We received a call around 9.45 pm saying a woman had jumped off a building and was lying in a pool of blood. Prima facie,it seems that she took the step as there were problems between her family and her would-be in-laws. We have contacted Ankita’s family who live in Anand Vihar in Delhi and investigations are on.”
<\b>Rickshaw puller’s family awarded Rs 19 lakh relief in accident case
A Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal (MACT) awarded over Rs 19 lakh as compensation to the family of a rickshaw puller,killed in a road accident last year. The rickshaw puller,Irfan Ali (25),was crossing a road in Mayur Vihar when he was hit by a car. He succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. Irfan’s wife told the court that he was the sole bread winner of their family. “My husband had studied till Class VIII,and earned Rs 300-Rs 400 a day pulling rickshaws,” she told the court. Irfan is survived by his parents,wife and a minor daughter. Stating that the driving was “rash and negligent”,MACT judge B S Chumbak awarded Rs 19,37,656 to his family as compensation. The judge directed the owner of the vehicle to pay the compensation and directed New India Insurance Company to reimburse the amount paid.
