Two days after a 18-year-old youth’s body was found inside the swimming pool of the Delhi Golf Club, the Delhi Police on Thursday served a notice under Section 91 of CrPC to the official in-charge of club. Police asked the club to inform the investigator about the authority responsible for the premises.
“Investigators are waiting for a reply to the notice. We will then take action against the person responsible,” a senior police officer said.
According to police, the deceased was identified as Mahesh Chand Soni. He worked as a helper in the club’s kitchen. “A PCR call was received at 1 am on Tuesday that a man was found floating in the swimming pool. Local police rushed to the spot and took Soni to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead,” an officer said.
Police said the deep end of the pool (12 ft) was not manned nor were there any warning signs displayed near the pool. A case was registered under Section 304a (causing death by negligence) of the IPC at Hazrat Nizamuddin police station.
On Wednesday, Soni’s family protested outside the Golf Club and alleged that Soni was murdered. However, police said initial findings of the victim’s autopsy has revealed that he died due to drowning. After the autopsy, the body was handed over to the family who took it to Allahabad to perform the last rites.
