Nine children injured as speeding car hits school van

Nine schoolchildren were injured,two of them seriously,when the van in which they were travelling was hit by a speeding car in Rithala on Friday.

Nine schoolchildren were injured,two of them seriously,when the van in which they were travelling was hit by a speeding car in Rithala on Friday.

The injured children are all students of the Vikas Bharti School in Rohini,and were returning home after writing their exams. According to police,the incident took place around 11.30 am,when the school van was taking a U-turn near Prahladpur in Rithala Sector 24. Witnesses told police that the speeding Maruti Swift car hit the van,which turned turtle.

The children were taken to the nearby Saroj Hospital,where seven of them were discharged after first aid. Doctors said two of the students,Muskan (13) and Aditi (8 ),who received head injuries,were admitted to the ICU but were stable.

The driver of the van,Suresh Kumar,was also treated at the hospital.

Dr Rajesh Rana,a resident doctor,said,“The condition of the two children in the ICU is stable. They had suffered head injuries but there is nothing to worry about.”

The driver of the car fled the scene,leaving the vehicle behind. Police said both vehicles had been impounded and they were on the lookout for the absconding driver.
