To ensure continuous electricity supply in its areas, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has approved a power sub-station in Chanakyapuri,South Delhi.

The upgrade plan is aimed at ensuring seamless power supply to diplomatic area of Chankyapuri,Rashrapati Bhavan,Parliament and office buildings. Officials said frequent power cuts were reported from Lok Nayak Bhavan and remedial action is being planned.

The Land and Development Office has allotted a plot of land for establishing 11 KV electric switching station near American Embassy School in Chanakyapuri.

“At present, there is no sub-station in the vicinity. The existing sub-stations in Chankyapuri — at Nehru Park,Bapu Dham,SP Marg, etc — are generally overloaded. We could shift some feeders to this proposed sub-station,” said an NDMC official.

The civic agency said that the Delhi Metro is also considering an underground sub-station at the Church Road. As per estimates and the MoU submitted by the Delhi Metro the sub-station will cost Rs 25 crore.

The North And South Avenues are also expected to get sub-stations.
