The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Wednesday announced a two-fold increase in the off-road and indoor parking charges in the city. The revised charges, which were implemented from Wednesday, are in line with measures taken under GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) stage-II, imposed in the Delhi-NCR on Diwali eve, officials said. The AQI (air quality index) on Diwali eve was recorded at 296 at 4 pm and 302 at 7 pm, officials pointed out.

“Now therefore in compliance of the above and keeping in view of the climatic conditions, the parking fees (off road/indoor) has been enhanced to twice of the existing fees for the parking managed by NDMC till the revocation of stage-II of the GRAP,” a statement by the civic body read.

Under the revised structure, parking for four-wheelers will now cost Rs 40 per hour instead of Rs 20. Two-wheelers will now be charged Rs 20 per hour instead of Rs 10. The parking fee for buses has been increased from Rs 150 to Rs 300 per hour.

The civic body currently runs 126 parking sites — 99 off-road, 24 on-street and 3 indoor or multi-level car parkings sites.

“A total of 102 parking sites will be affected after the decision,” said an official.

However, for on-street parking and monthly pass, the charges will remain the same. According to officials, these rates are “already on the higher side”.

Meanwhile, sources in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi said that a proposal will be presented in the House to consider increasing the parking charges at sites owned by it, in view of the poor air quality of the Capital.
