The Golden Greens Golf Course in Manesar,Gurgaon is hosting the 3rd Indian Golf Union National Junior Tour from 17th – 20th April. The Haryana Junior will see 89 juniors 47 in Category A (15-17 years) and 42 in Category B (13-14 years) teeing off Tuesday.
Though Haryana is hosting the first leg,the Toyota National Junior Tour travels to Gurgaon,Bangalore,Chandigarh,Delhi,Noida,Jaipur,and Mumbai before culminating in Kolkata. The points earned from these tournaments are helpful in guaging the amateur players for national team selections and international tournaments like the Nomura Cup,Malaysian Amateur Championships among others.
Honey Baisoya of Delhi Golf Club,who has several international tournaments experience under his belt and has lifted many titles last year is one of the top contenders this week along with DLG Golf and Country Clubs Manu Gandas,who won the Delhi Juniors last week at the Army Golf Course. Aman Raj of Patna Golf Club,Piyush Sangwan and Abhishek Kuhar of DLF Gurgaon,Rohan Sharma and Prakhar Asawa of Rambagh Jaipur,Viraj Madappa of Tollygunge Kolkata and Shubhankar Sharma of ITC Classic Manesar are the other promising players in the draw.
I am upbeat about doing well on the National Junior Tour. Thankfully its not so hot yet and the conditions will help us. Though the field looks very competitive and I expect some great golf this week,I also hope I continue playing well and win more titles, Gandas,who played a practice round on Monday after a clinic from pro Harmeet Kahlon,said.
In selecting the No. 1 ranked player at the end of the Tour,points are totaled from seven tournaments which must include the four zonal championships North,South,East and West as well as the All India Junior Finals and two other best tournaments from the season.
