‘Muthoot robber is a failed businessman’

A 30-year-old businessman,who reportedly was saddled with huge losses,was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the robbery at a Muthoot Finance office in Rohini in June.

A 30-year-old businessman,who reportedly was saddled with huge losses,was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the robbery at a Muthoot Finance office in Rohini in June. Police said 13 kg of gold and Rs 1.3 lakh in cash were looted.

Kaushal Chauhan,who owns a plastic moulding firm in Rithala that was suffering losses,was arrested from Pitampura Metro station. Police confiscated jewellery worth a crore,a new SUV and Rs 8 lakh from him.

Police said Chauhan committed the robbery with three associates to tide over his financial crisis,which reportedly forced his wife to leave him. After plotting the heist,he visited Bhiwani in Haryana and roped in his friends Rahul,Amit and Paramjeet.

“Before the robbery,they checked the details inside the Muthoot Finance office in Rohini,which had only three employees. His associates arranged the weapons and two motorcycles. On June 22,they committed the daylight robbery by overpowering the guard. They looted 13 kg of gold and Rs 1.3 lakh in cash,” a police officer said.

“Chauhan got 5 kg of gold as his share. He sold part of it to pay his debts and an NDPL (discom) bill. He gave away the rest to his associates. He is being questioned for the whereabouts of his friends involved in the crime,” the officer said.
