Murder convict escapes from Safdarjung hospital

A case under Sections 223 & 224 of IPC was registered against him for escaping from custody, said a police officer.

A 35-year-old murder convict, who was serving life imprisonment in Neemka prison in Faridabad, escaped during a visit to Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday morning. The prisoner, Karnbeer, was brought to the hospital as he was repeatedly complaining of knee pain, a police officer said.

The police said that an ASI, two head constables and a driver accompanied Karnbeer and two other prisoners. All the three were taken to the respective OPDs. Karnbeer was taken to ward number 307.

According to the police, the convict gauged the situation well before his escape. “He noticed that no one was paying attention and used the opportunity to flee,” an officer said.

As soon as the prisoner along with a constable reached the OPD ward and submitted a form to the doctor, the prisoner pushed aside the constable and ran away.

“Although the prisoner was handcuffed, he was not tied to a rope,” the officer said.

A case under Sections 223 & 224 of IPC was registered against him for escaping from custody, said a police officer.

DCP, Ballabhgarh, Bhupendra Singh said that though Karnbeer was convicted in a murder case, he has three cases of attempt to murder (Section 307 of IPC) still pending against him.

“He was recently transferred from Sonepat jail to Faridabad and all cases against him pertains to Jhajjar istrict,” Singh said.

“It appears that there was some nexus between the policemen and Karnbeer. It seems that he operated with some plan in mind as he had some company in the hospital. There has been negligence on the side of police as well,” the DCP said.
