Munna Singh,the 29-year-old security guard killed in an armed heist on Friday,hailed from Badayun in Uttar Pradesh. He was his familys sole earning member. The eldest of six brothers,Munna was planning to bring his family to Delhi.
However,he was shot dead in Defence Colony on Friday,while travelling in a cash van carrying Rs 5.25 crore. Munna was employed by the Premier Shield Security Company (a cash replenishment agency) as a gunman. A bullet hit him in the chest and he died at the AIIMS Trauma Centre on Friday night.
Munnas cousin Pappu,who lives in Noida Sector-93,told Newsline,Police informed Munnas father in Badayun after which we were informed of the incident. We were told that he was injured in an accident.
Munnas gun was a private weapon,a double-barrel rifle. He had procured a licence for it in Badayun five years ago. Pappu said,Almost everyone in Munnas village has a gun for security purposes.
Munna lived with his uncle Prempal Singh at their rented accommodation in Jasola Vihar. Singh said,On Friday,Munna reached home at 12.45 am and left at 8.30 am. He often worked overtime to earn more. He wanted to settle in Delhi.
Munnas parents are farmers and till a month ago,Munna helped them in the fields. In Delhi,he earned Rs 9,000 a month. His family members said he sent a considerable amount back home.
Munna married nine years ago in Badayun. He is survived by his wife Swati and two children.
