MSP guarantee, memorial at Singhu: Greater Noida farmers submit list of demands

(Express Photo by Gajendra Yadav) Following a call by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) to hold a one-day protest in support of farmers of Haryana and Punjab, Gautam Buddh Nagar’s farmers Wednesday set out on their tractors — with DJs playing songs on the agrarian crisis — to the collectorate office in Greater Noida’s Surajpur.

“In this district alone, farmers have been protesting against the Noida and Greater Noida authorities for many months, but are not being heard. What else do we do except raise our voices for our demands? Our villages are being displaced due to the (Jewar) airport, but we are not getting proper compensation. If someone is entitled to get a 100-yard plot as compensation, then he/she is being given 50 yards. We have been residents here for thousands of years, how can they do this to us?” said Pawan Khatana, BKU’s Western UP president, who led the protest.
