Newly elected Gurgaon MP and Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh pulled up officials from various departments over issues surrounding waste disposal in the city at a meeting on Tuesday.

Ahead of the recent Lok Sabha polls, residents had protested and given boycott calls citing the garbage crisis in Gurgaon. Rao Inderjit Singh won the seat with a margin of over 75,000 votes, while he had a comfortable majority of over 3.86 lakh votes last time.

Inderjit Singh reviewed various development projects, cleanliness arrangements, and preparations for the monsoon season. He also sought a report on ongoing development projects in Gurgaon from A Srinivas, CEO of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Narhari Singh Bangar, Municipal Corporation Commissioner, and Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner.

Inderjit Singh said that Gurgaon is a global city and it is crucial to ensure a clean environment for the urban population. Officials should make serious efforts to solve waste and waterlogging issues, he added.

Garbage from the busiest areas of the city should be collected promptly and a plan should be implemented quickly to improve cleanliness and sewer systems in extended areas, the MP said, while expressing dissatisfaction with the cleanliness of drains. He directed GMDA officials to remove permanent or temporary obstructions affecting the drainage system and to take strict action against those dumping waste in the drains.

The MP also sought reports on the GMDA’s plan to discharge treated sewage into the Damdama lake and the progress of the sports complex being built in Wazirabad.
