 Mother, son killed in road accident on Delhi-Meerut Expressway as car rams into scooter

The police said an Alto car coming on the wrong side collided with a scooter returning to Ghaziabad from Meerut.

A 40-year-old woman and her son were killed in a road accident in which a car rammed into their scooter on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway on Sunday night, said the police.

A police officer said the accident occurred around 7.45 pm near the Mehrauli underpass under the Wave City police station area. An Alto car coming on the wrong side collided with a scooter returning to Ghaziabad from Meerut. Two-wheelers are banned from plying on the expressway.

The deceased were identified as Manju and Yash Gautam, residents of Madhu Vihar in Delhi. Manju got separated from her husband a few years ago, said the police.

“After the accident, both the injured were admitted to a private hospital where the doctors declared them dead. The car driver, a resident of Ghaziabad, has been arrested and sent to jail. Further legal action is being taken,” said Poonam Mishra, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Wave City.
