Rephrasing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Achhe din aane wale hain” pitch by adding his own spin — “Modiji jaane wale hain” — to it, Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal Monday declared that the BJP was set to lose power on June 4, when results for the Lok Sabha elections will be announced.
Taking to the streets of East Delhi for back-to-back street-corner meetings in support of AAP candidate Kuldeep Kumar, Kejriwal said an INDIA bloc government was set to be formed at the Centre following which the Capital would get full statehood.
“Achhe din aane wale hain, Modiji jaane wale hain… (Good days are on their way, Modi is on his way out)…There is tremendous anger among the people against the BJP. I can give it to you in writing today, that Modi ji’s government will not return to power on June 4,” the CM declared in Jangpura, which was among the six locations where he campaigned on Monday.
“The INDIA coalition government is coming to power of which AAP will be a part and we will give full statehood status to Delhi. Till now, the Delhi Police did not listen to you; but after June 4, it will,” he said.
Accompanied by his wife Sunita, who was leading from the front when her husband was in judicial custody after being arrested in the excise policy case by the Enforcement Directorate, the AAP convener termed her ‘Jhansi ki Rani’.
“I have also brought my wife with me today. She took charge of everything when I was in jail; she used to come to meet me and I used to inquire about the well-being of my Delhiites through her, send my messages to you through her. She is like Jhansi ki Rani,” he said at one such meeting in Gandhi Nagar.
Sunita too addressed the crowd, appealing to the people to vote for the AAP. “It is because of your blessings that my husband is with us today. God helps those who do the right thing; if you don’t want my husband to go back to jail, vote for the AAP on May 25,” she said.
Kejriwal also accused the BJP-led Centre of stopping his medication in jail. “I made your medicines free but these people stopped my medicines and insulin in jail… My mothers and sisters were waiting for me, now I have come and you don’t have to worry. I will start your Rs 1,000 allowance soon,” he said as he accused the PM of “ruining the lives of the people” by ushering in inflation and unemployment in the country over his 10-year tenure.
