With country-wide mock drills scheduled to be conducted on Wednesday, in light of the rising Indo-Pakistan tensions after the Pahalgam terror attack, the Delhi governmentās Lok Nayak Hospital will hold a separate drill for all its doctors and staff.
They will be trained on what to do when air raid warning sirens ring out, how to deal with civilians and students, implement crash blackout measures, evacuation plans and camouflaging, and general preparedness tips.
According to a circular issued by the hospital, the mock drill will be conducted on Wednesday, and a sensitisation program will be held in the disaster ward. The circular said the drill is being conducted to enhance the safety of the community.
Training will be provided to familiarise staff and employees with air raid siren sounds (e.g., long wails for alerts, short bursts for all-clear), identifying the nearest shelter locations, such as basements, underground car parks, or designated safe zones.
Staff will also be trained to teach children the basics of emergency response, such as dropping low and covering their heads; identifying safe spaces at home, school, or neighbourhood; and practising first aid techniques like treating minor injuries or CPR.
The circular also referred to installing thick blackout curtains or blinds on all windows. āPrepare your home to operate without lights during the blackout. Use light-blocking materials like dark cloth or cardboard. Ensure outdoor lights are switched off during drills. Test your preparedness by simulating a blackout with family members,ā it added.
The circular further issued preparatory steps for the general public and advised them to report any unfamiliar activity near critical installations to the authorities. āAvoid sharing sensitive information about local facilities on social media,ā it added.
