A Delhi Police constable was beaten up by an angry mob after he slapped an autorickshaw driver in the Gokulpuri area of Northeast Delhi on Tuesday. The police said the incident was reported this afternoon, when Constable Sandeep stopped Ashish Kumar,an autorickshaw driver. Kumar didnt stop and Sandeep followed him for a few metres. After intercepting him,Sandeep slapped him, which irked other passers-by and auto drivers, the police said. Sandeep was beaten up by the mob before a PCR call was made. Senior officers had to come in as the angry mob halted traffic for about half-an-hour,alleging that cops take a monthly payment from the autorickshaw drivers. Sandeep and Kumar were taken to the Gokulpuri police station and a case was lodged against Kumar and four others for allegedly beating up Sandeep. Traffic police personnel said autorickshaws with UP number plates are not allowed to ply in Delhi except to fill CNG. They, however, violate the rules and often take passengers from Delhi. Both Sandeep and
Kumar underwent medical examination and were provided with medical treatment by police personnel as they had suffered injuries.
