The decomposed body of property dealer and builder Vinod Kumar Gupta was found in Sector 92 in Noida on Monday, two days after he went missing from his GK-III house. Police said two persons, one of them known to Gupta, have been arrested and a search was on for a third person.
Vinod Kumar Gupta was strangled by Deepak (25) and Sonu (22) on June 17 shortly after 9 pm. They had robbed him of a gold chain, two gold rings and Rs 16,000. Sonu knew Gupta well and they had hatched a plot to kill him, said Ajay Chaudhry,Additional Commissioner of Police (Southeast).
Police said that a goldsmith,Rakesh, who accepted the looted jewellery, has also been arrested.
Police sources said Gupta was on his way to meet the accused who had been in touch with him all of Friday. Gupta had left his house that night after informing his family that he would return in an hour.
According to his family,Gupta left alone in his Toyota Corolla car. They found this unusual because he always took a driver with him.
According to police,Gupta drove to his Noida Sector 92 plot which has two makeshift rooms. There he is said to have met Sonu,Deepak and Dilip.
Police said the men believed that Gupta always had Rs 4-5 lakh cash with him. They decided to rob him.
The body was decomposed and his hands were tied. Prima facie,it seems he was strangled, Chaudhry said.
Guptas son,Ankur, had filed a missing person report at the C R Park police station on Saturday morning after failing to contact his father throughout Friday night.
Information was sent out to neighbouring areas and the Noida police got back, saying Guptas car had been found abandoned at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida.
On Monday morning, police was tipped off that Deepak was on his way to visit his wifes relatives in Tilak Nagar. He was arrested. Police said Deepak led them to Sonu who knew Gupta well. But the family said they were not aware that Gupta and Sonu knew each other.
The third accused will be arrested soon. Sonu is being brought to Delhi from Pratapgarh. After questioning him,we will know why the victim went to Noida on Friday night, said Amulya Patnaik,Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Range).
