Hours after the High Court allowed collection of toll from commercial vehicles on the expressway,Gurgaon police arrested two persons — one from the DGSCL and the other from the South Delhi municipal corporation — on the charge of forcibly collecting toll from a private vehicle.
Long queues were witnessed at the Sirhaul toll plaza in the evening as authorities began directing commercial vehicles into separate lanes to collect toll.
According to police,a toll collector and a municipal employee were arrested for collecting toll from a private vehicle in violation of court orders.
“We have registered a case of extortion against them. Five-six persons more were involved and we will arrest them soon,” said Amarjeet Kataria,SHO Udyog Vihar police station.
Sources said that a member of a Haryana minister’s family was in the car that was stopped but the police declined comment.
Police identified the complainant as Kamal Verma,a resident of Jail Road in Delhi. He was headed to Delhi when his vehicle was stopped at 8.15 pm.
A DGSCL spokesperson said: “There was a commercial vehicle which was trying to evade toll in Lane No.8. The MCD man must have stopped him. An important personality of Haryana was travelling in a car just behind that vehicle. He might not have known that toll collection for commercial vehicles had resumed and he might have called the police.”
