Trial runs on the Central Secretariat-Badarpur Metro corridor is expected to begin this week, with the DMRC completing the lowering of four coaches on the tracks between Lajpat Nagar and Jangpura Metro stations late on Saturday night.

The coaches will now be assembled on the tracks of the upcoming corridor to save time and expedite work on sections of the corridor.

The coaches were brought on trailers from the Mundka Standard Gauge depot and lowered on the inclined ramp between Jangpura and Lajpat Nagar by using a 270-tonne crane. The operation lasted for around five hours, during which the road traffic was diverted on the route. DMRC officials said the move had to be taken as there was no other entry point through which the coaches could be brought to the station.

The trial runs on the 9-km Central Secretariat-Lajpat Nagar section will begin after July 5 once signalling and other work get completed.

The 20.16-km line is still under construction and was expected to be delayed following a mishap at Zamrudpur last July. Officials, however, said the line is expected to be commissioned by September, meeting the Commonwealth Games deadline.
