Come 2010 and South Delhi residents can expect some relief from the usual traffic jams. Two Delhi Metro lines,Central Secretariat to Badarpur and Central Secretariat to Gurgaon, scheduled to begin operations by mid-next year, will cut across South Delhi and connect this part of the city in an extensive manner.

With stations at Hauz Khas,AIIMS,INA,Saket,Lajpat Nagar,Moolchand,Khan Market, and Chhattarpur among others,Delhi Metro officials expect to see a cross-section of people commuting on these lines.

The Metro station at Hauz Khas, connecting IIT Delhi and Gurgaon, will make it easier for students from NCR to commute to Delhi, while stations at Saket,Khan Market,Lajpat Nagar,INA Colony and Green Park are expected to draw shoppers in large numbers. The Saket and INA stations will be within a walking distance from PVR Saket and Dilli Haat, respectively.

“The Chhattarpur station will be located very close to the famous temple complex. Devotees, who earlier had to take buses or other modes of transport, can now easily switch to the Metro for quicker and more convenient travel,” a Delhi Metro official said. “Even the AIIMS station will be right next to the institute.”
