After a week of sweltering heat, the maximum temperature in Delhi dipped to 39.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
Officials at the Safdarjung Meteorological department said dust storms caused due to a Western Disturbance are responsible for the slight dip in temperature.
Dust particles suspended in the air prevent the sunlight from directly hitting the surface, thereby bringing the temperature down. We think the situation will be the same on Monday, the officer on duty at the Safdarjung Met department said.
The Met department has predicted a maximum temperature of 39 degrees Celsius for Monday, with the possibility of dust storms and thunderstorms. The minimum temperature recorded on Sunday was 26.3 degrees Celsius,2 notches above normal for this time of the year.
