The 13-year-old girl has been admitted to the paediatric surgery department of AIIMS. She has undergone two surgeries since she was hospitalised on May 18.
“She has severe perineal tears or tears in her genital region. She has been operated for these injuries so far. Her last surgery was a couple of days ago, when majority of the tears were repaired,” said a doctor.
The minor is in a stable condition, said AIIMS medical superintendent Dr D K Sharma. “She is stable at the moment but has been kept under close observation. She may need another corrective surgery later,” he said.
Doctors said her injuries were “indicative of grievous assault”. “The genitalia has been severely damaged, so two surgeries were required,” said the doctor.
The girl also has injuries in her neck and abdomen region, said sources. “There are bruises and cuts in her neck and abdomen,” said the doctor.
Once she starts recovering from her injuries, she will undergo regular counselling sessions, said sources in the hospital.
“She was medically examined under anesthesia as per protocol and a medical examination confirmed sexual assault. A counselor was deputed after that,” said the doctor.
