The Assembly is getting ready to welcome a new set of legislators — former MNC executives, lawyers, journalists, even body-builders.

Twenty-five-year-old Prakash left his managerial post with an MNC to volunteer for the Jan Lokpal movement. He won from Deoli by a margin of 17,108 votes. “No one is born experienced. He has stepped into politics, now see where he goes,” his brother Lucky said.

Prakash declared assets of around Rs 1 lakh in his affidavit. Meanwhile,SAD winner from Rajouri Garden,Manjinder Singh Sirsa, has disclosed assets worth Rs 235.51 crore. Sirsa was the richest candidate in the fray this election.

Former NSG commando Surender Singh, who was in the team that ended the 26/11 siege in Mumbai, won from Delhi Cantonment by just 355 votes. “People trusted me because they look to the Army as a symbol of honesty. I thank them for their support,” Singh said.

His sentiment was shared by Raju Dhingan,a former CISF man,who won from Trilokpuri. He built his popularity amidst the lads in his locality by training them in body-building.

The only Independent to win a seat was Rambir Singh Shokeen, who won the Mundka constituency by a margin of 7,134 votes.

Shokeen said he was undecided about which party to join. “If I am offered the post of deputy CM,I will consider joining the BJP,” Shokeen said.

Rubbishing the notion that only the ill-qualified walk into politics, the list of winning candidates sported a number of lawyers and engineers.

Somnath Bharti, the winner from Malviya Nagar,is an IIT post-graduate and a lawyer by vocation. He and Madan Lal,who won from Kasturba Nagar, are from the AAP. Saurabh Bharadwaj, who took Greater Kailash, has degrees in engineering and law. He aims to revamp the BRT.
