A day after senior BJP leaders were consistent that it would make the mayor despite losing MCD to AAP, the state unit president Adesh Gupta Friday cleared the air and said, “BJP will not have the mayor in the MCD, but it will play a role of a strong opposition.”

Thanking the voters and the party workers for 40 per cent vote share in the civic polls, Gupta said, “BJP will serve the people of Delhi by becoming a strong opposition and will expose the corruption of Aam Aadmi Party in the corporation just like the huge corruption done by AAP in Delhi government.”

The BJP which ruled the MCD for the last 15 years came second to AAP with a thin margin and won 104 out of 250 wards. While the AAP won 126 seats, two councillors from the Congress joined the party on Friday.
