Two weeks after three persons were held with nine kg of heroin worth Rs 30 crore, the Special Cell has arrested a fourth member of the syndicate.
Police recovered from him 32 kg of heroin and two kg of crack cocaine worth Rs 120 crore in the international market.
Police said Autar Singh (48),a resident of Delhi, was arrested on Saturday after Special Cell received a tip-off.
Three other members of the gang,A Venugopal Reddy (29),a resident of Cuddapah district,Andhra Pradesh,Ragmeet Singh (25) and Shurbir Singh (28),both residents of Delhi, were arrested earlier this month.
A trap was laid near the Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar,GT Karnal Road, and Singh was apprehended in the early hours of Saturday. We found the contraband in his Santro, neatly packed in polythene bags, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said.
Singh told police that he had left behind a consignment of six kg contraband drugs at his home in Tilak Nagar. Police said that too has been recovered.
The Santro that he used to transport the drugs was stolen from Shalimar Bagh, police officers said.
Police said the syndicate was spread across South East Asia and the Gulf countries. The masterminds of the syndicate,Ali and Samiullah, were based in Kuwait and Afghanistan, respectively.
Police said consolidated demand for the drugs supplied by the syndicate was generated by members based in Kuwait. The demand was met by Afghanistan-based producers.
Police said Autar Singh was born in Parwan,Kabul,Afghanistan. In 2009 Autar, along with his nephew Shurbir Singh, began working as translators for Afghan nationals who came to India.
In 2012,Samiullah,an Afghan national who was looking for a translator, contacted Shurbir.
When Samiullah arrived in India,he was received by Autar and Shurbir who took him to his hotel in Lajpat Nagar.
Samiullah offered them to join his trans-national drug cartel as couriers of drugs that were pushed into India, and from there to Sri Lanka and other countries.
The two later roped in Raghmeet for a share of the profit they earned.
Police said for every delivery, the members purchased a new set of SIM cards. For receiving payments and to discuss the growth of the cartel,Autar went to Afghanistan in September 2013 and stayed there for over a month with Samiullah.
During this stay,Samiullah introduced him to peddling of crack cocaine which is even more costly than heroin and promised him that in the next consignment, some crack cocaine would be sent.
