A bystander called police, who rushed the severely bleeding Kumar to the local hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. A case of murder has been registered against Pappu,Sita Ram,Gotani and Papiya, who are on the run.
While residents claim that he was killed for his complaint, police have a different view.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest),Brahm Singh, told Newsline: A few residents had gone to the police station to lodge a complaint against a woman for making additional construction on her jhuggi. In the same complaint they mentioned sale of illegal liquor and gambling racket and that it was happening in connivance with beat constables in the area.
Kumars brother,Hari Ram,however, questioned how Pappu and his accomplice got the information about the complaint. The beat constables in the area had leaked information, that is why Kumar was murdered, he said.
The three beat constables of the area, head constable Dev Singh, constable Rajiv and constable Vineet have been suspended, said Additional DCP. The police, however, claimed that the three were suspended for negligence as theywere absent from their post at the time of murder. Additional DCP added that inquiry is being conducted against the policemen.
The police are also investigating if Kumar was murdered due to rivalry. According to the police,Kumar too indulged in the sale of spurious liquor and has about 10 cases under Excise Duty Acts against him in Model Town and Mangolpuri area.
