Police on Tuesday arrested a man who allegedly strangled his wife in his car and dumped her body near the Mayur Vihar Extension Metro station in East Delhi. He suspected her of having an affair, police said.
Neetu (23) had gone missing from her Kalyanpuri home on Saturday morning. Her father, accompanied by her husband Om Prakash, filed a missing persons complaint at 10.30 pm that night, police said. CCTV footage from Mayur Vihar Phase-I Metro station recovered by police showed Neetu was travelling alone.
But, CCTV footage from the Noida Sector-18 Metro station, however, showed Neetu was with her husband on the platform. This made police suspicious and they interrogated Om Prakash. Investigations revealed that Om Prakash had allegedly murdered his wife and dumped her body in the Yamuna Khadar area, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ajay Kumar said.
Om Prakash, an MBA working for a major cellphone service provider, and Neetu married in November, 2013. Their marriage ran into trouble soon after, police said.
Om Prakash told police that Neetu’s phone would always be busy when he would call her. He, therefore, started suspecting her of having an affair.
Following an argument, Neetu left for her parents’ house on June 8. Police said on June 21, Om Prakash allegedly called her to the Noida Sector-18 Metro station. She informed her mother and left to meet him. Both then went to eat at Atta Market in Noida, where they had an argument, police said.
Om Prakash then drove his Santro car to a deserted spot and allegedly strangled his wife on Saturday, police said. He then allegedly dumped her body in a bag at Yamuna Khadar, Mayur Vihar. Police got Om Prakash to reveal the location of the body and recovered the bag. Om Prakash was arrested and booked under charges of murder and destruction of evidence, police said.
