Suspecting that a 21-year-old man had stolen their puppy,an enraged employee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and his relatives allegedly opened fire at him in Outer Delhi. The employee,Karambir alias Sonu, was arrested by police on Tuesday.

According to police, the incident occurred at Bajitpur village in Outer Delhi’s Bawana area on January 19. “Hitesh told police in his complaint that a man, identified as Monu, had been threatening him for a long time. Later,he along with Manjeet,Karambir,Leelu and Vineet came to his farm. Monu shot the complainant in his left thigh, and they fled the scene. Hitesh is out of danger,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) B S Jaiswal.

Acting on a tip-off that Karambir would come to Bajitpur village to meet his family members, police laid a trap at Dhansa Bandh near Dhansa village and arrested him.

Police said Karambir initially claimed that Hitesh had tried to attack them. “However,he broke down later and stated that they nursed a grudge against Hitesh because he had stolen their puppy. So they decided to kill him. When the accused saw Hitesh sitting alone in a field in his village on January 19,Karambir and his aides opened fire at him,” Jaiswal said.

During questioning,Karambir told police that while Vineet allegedly arranged for the pistol,Monu had brought the car. Police said Karambir, working as a beldar in the MCD,has a history of crime.
