Man rapes minor he was to marry, kills her cousin: Police
‘Girl did not want to marry him and had slapped him in front of her parents’.
The crime came to light Saturday morning when the girl’s eight-year-old brother spotted her and their cousin lying on the floor of the house.
A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped and her 12-year-old cousin brother was murdered by a man who had been promised her hand in marriage by her family, said police Saturday. The crime occurred in a rented one-room accommodation in northwest Delhi Friday, said sources.
The girl’s mother and stepfather told the police they had fixed her marriage with 21-year-old Raju, the suspect, sources said. The girl did not want to marry Raju and had slapped him in front of her parents a week ago after he reportedly tried to touch her inappropriately, said sources. Raju used to extend financial help to her family, added the sources.
DCP (Northwest) Vijay Singh said a case had been registered under sections 376 (rape), 302 (murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and a hunt was on to nab Raju. “He will be arrested soon.”

He informed their landlady, who called the police. “She was bleeding and writhing in pain. Her cousin was lying near her with a bedsheet around his neck. I made a PCR call. Both were taken to hospital in a PCR van,” said the landlady.
Police sources said it appeared the boy was strangled. There was a deep wound on the girl’s forehead too, added the sources. “It appears she was badly beaten up with an iron rod for objecting to the sexual assault,” said a police officer. The girl is recuperating at a hospital, added the officer.
The girl’s family had moved to the rented accommodation, in the basement of a three-storey house, on November 2. Her stepfather is a factory labourer, said sources. Raju, also a labourer, had moved to another room in the same basement on November 10, added sources. The landlady said the girl’s father told her they knew Raju and were going to marry their daughter to him soon.
On Friday night, the girl’s parents had gone to her grandfather’s house in the same locality, said sources. The girl’s mother had asked Raju to take care of her children, saying they would not come back in the night, added the sources.
Raju took the girl’s brother to his room and made him sleep there before coming over to the girl’s house, said sources. The girl’s aunt and mother of the murdered boy said, “He went to her house while playing.” She said her son must have fought to save his sister.
‘She wants to study, work for her family’
The girl resisted marriage because she wanted to study and get a job to help her family, said one of her relatives. She dropped out of school after Class VIII, but recently joined a computer course without telling her parents. “She was under pressure to marry Raju because he was helping her family,” he said.
