Delhi Police has arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl “on several occasions” in northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area. Police said the accused would allegedly lure the girl with a Rs 10 note and chow mein, which she was fond of, and then “make her swallow a drug” before committing the offence.
According to police, the incident came to light after locals found the victim lying abandoned at a park on Monday. They took the girl to her home and informed police. “She was in trauma and was scared to open up initially,” said a senior police officer. The police called an NGO that counselled the girl, who then opened up and narrated her ordeal. The girl told police that the accused, a 60-year-old vegetable vendor who lives in her neighbourhood, had sexually assaulted her on a few occasions. “She comes from a poor family and the accused would take advantage of that and lure her on the pretext of treating her to her favourite dish,” the officer said.
“The day the girl was found unconscious, the accused had lured her on the same pretext before raping her. He then dumped her in the area. After the girl narrated her ordeal to the counsellors and police, the accused was arrested. He is currently in judicial custody,” an officer said.
Police are trying to ascertain what kind of pills the accused had fed the victim. She is being counselled, and police are trying to find out on how many occasions the accused had committed the offence, the officer said.
