A man has been arrested on the charge of stalking a woman doctor, who works at Safdarjung Hospital, police said on Monday.

The woman had approached Delhi Police with a complaint, seeking action against the man,who allegedly had been stalking her in the hospital and harassing her over the phone. A case has been registered at Safdarjung Enclave police station.

The doctor,a dermatologist, told police that one Zakir Hussain kept calling her at odd hours, sent text messages and often visited her at the OPD.

The doctor first met Hussain in April last year at her house, where he had come to meet her father. A few days later,he managed to procure her number and insisted on consulting her for a skin disease.

In her complaint to the police last Wednesday, the woman said she asked Hussain to attend her OPD at the hospital.

“The next morning,I examined him and removed a wart from his face,” she said.

However,Hussain kept calling the doctor from his mobile phone and repeatedly sought to “consult” her about various skin ailments that he claimed to be suffering from.

“I allowed him to consult me in the OPD again. On discovering that some of his ailments were out of my scope of practice,I advised him to consult appropriate specialists. I also blocked his number from my phone but continued to receive messages from him,” she told police.

Whenever Hussain said he wanted to see her,the doctor would say she was busy in the OPD. On one occasion,he allegedly expressed his willingness to come for consultation to her residence after 11 pm. “However,I avoided him by saying that I had shifted to the doctors’ hostel, where outsiders are not allowed. Then, one day,he came to the OPD and started talking about his personal and marital problems. He said he had divorced his wife two decades ago and had two children. I was fed up of him and totally uninterested in his story. I left the OPD,” she said.

The doctor has also alleged that he would start calling her at 6 am and make several calls throughout the day, till midnight. She has submitted a record of the calls and text messages he sent her.

Further investigation in the matter is on.
