A city court awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment to a man for raping his two daughters at their home for a year on Monday.
Where else could the victims have resided safely? The offence committed by the convict,who also happens to be the father of the victims,is heinous and requires to be dealt with severely, District and Sessions Judge S P Garg said.
Ram Singh,a resident of Malviya Nagar,was also fined Rs 5,000. The court dismissed a plea that he was implicated as he did not approve of the affair one of the victims was having. Terming the testimonies of the victims as reliable,the court said,The convict is the father of the victims,and not only did he rape his elder daughter (16) but also did not spare the other daughter,only 11-years old.
An FIR was lodged at the Malviya Nagar police station on September 22 last year by the elder daughter,alleging that Ram Singh was an alcoholic and used to beat her and her three sisters up. Singh,who would allegedly return home in a drunken state,raped her thrice during 2007 and also raped her 11-year-old sister,the complainant had alleged. Singh was deserted by his two wives due to his drinking habit and was living with his four daughters.
