A 45-year-old man, accused in a five-year-old case, died in custody while he was allegedly being dragged to the police station by two constables of the Vijay Nagar police station.

The family of Vinayakpal Singh alleged that he was forcibly taken to the police station and was not allowed to use the toilet when he complained of uneasiness.

Following the incident,Singh’s relatives held protests on NH-24 and Vijay Nagar police station.

Singh’s son Punit Pal said,“On Wednesday, two policemen asked my father to accompany them to the police station. My father was unwell, having suffered two cardiac arrests in the past. He requested to go to the toilet first, but they did not listen to him and instead dragged him to their motorcycle.” Punit said later a neighbour called him to say that Singh was lying unconscious outside a temple.

SP (Rural) Jagish Sharma said the post-mortem examination did not reveal any signs of torture or harassment.
