Police have arrested a man for allegedly murdering a 28-year-old woman in her house in Narela. The accused, Vipul Kumar, was known to the victim, Rinki Devi.
Devi was found stabbed to death at Paposna village in Narela on Friday evening — days after the brutal murder of a 19-year-old girl in central Delhi created political ripples and led to major protests.
The body of Rinki was found at her residence by her family, who claimed that she had been gagged with a piece of cloth and stabbed multiple times.
Police said Kumar was known to the victim’s family and had committed the crime for money.
“Investigation revealed the accused had left for Bihar after murdering her. On the way, however, he decided to return to Delhi. We tracked him on a train near Lucknow,” Vikramjit Singh, DCP (Outer), said.
“We arrested him only after the train reached Delhi,” he said.
The police said the accused thought that the family had Rs 1 lakh cash in their house. The accused found only Rs 10,000.
“We got a call about the incident on Friday evening and immediately reached the spot. There were several abrasions on the body and one major stab wound to the abdomen, which seems to be the cause of death,” Singh said.
But the victim’s family claimed she had been stabbed multiple times.
“She had at least 12 injury marks on her back and some on her neck, hands and abdomen,” her husband said. He added that when he came home around 1.30 pm on Friday, after picking up their children from school, he had found the door of their house locked from the outside.
