A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a six-year-old boy after the child’s mother turned down his advances, said police. They said that the incident was reported on November 4 in Northwest Delhi’s Subhash Place.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Samem alias Bithra, was arrested from Shakurbasti, police said, adding that the woman and Samem used to be friends, but she had recently stopped speaking to him.

The accused was allegedly pressuring her to stay in touch, but the woman refused.

The incident came to light in the early hours of November 4, when a PCR call was received at Subhash Place police station around 3.18 am regarding an incident of kidnapping. The woman, who is the complainant in the case, stated that her son had gone to a nearby shop around 7 pm on November 3 and had not returned home. Based on her statement, an FIR was registered under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation was initiated.

A police team was formed and footage of CCTV cameras installed in nearby shops and streets were scanned. The child’s photographs were also circulated, said police. The child was subsequently found in an injured condition in the bushes near the railway tracks and was immediately taken to a hospital.

“With the help of technical surveillance and local intelligence, the police traced and nabbed the accused from Shakurbasti, Delhi. During questioning, he confessed to kidnapping and assaulting the child, driven by a personal grudge. Section 140(2) BNS was also added to the case. Further investigation is in progress,” Bhisham Singh, DCP (North-West) said.
