Man arrested for firing at cop in New Friends Colony

Police on Thursday arrested a 28-year-old man for shooting at a Delhi Police constable in Southeast Delhi’s New Friends Colony area on Wednesday evening.

Police on Thursday arrested a 28-year-old man for shooting at a Delhi Police constable in Southeast Delhi’s New Friends Colony area on Wednesday evening.

A woman,who was passing by when the incident happened,was caught in the cross-fire and sustained a bullet injury.

The arrested man has been identified as Sonu alias Rahul.

According to police,Sonu has a crime record and is wanted in several cases of robbery and dacoity. He was arrested from Badarpur late on Wednesday.

“Sonu is involved in over 17 cases of robbery and dacoity in Delhi. He was arrested from his hideout in Badarpur. Sonu was jailed in 2007 for attacking a constable with a knife. He has been sent to Tihar thrice,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Ajay Chaudhary said.

After receiving a tip-off that he would be coming to the New Friends Colony area,a Delhi Police constable,Bobby Yadav (28),was on the lookout for him. When he saw Sonu,Yadav gave chase.

Sonu shot at Yadav near Khizrabad village.

Yadav sustained a bullet injury in his left thigh. Ramavati,who was passing by at that time,was also injured in the crossfire. Both were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre and were declared out of danger.
