A 35-year-old man, who was arrested for allegedly carrying illicit liquor, died under mysterious circumstances in the custody of Noida Police, Wednesday.
However, police claimed the man, Tanveer, may have died of a cardiac arrest. Officials said a magisterial inquiry was ordered in this case.
Tanveer, who hailed from Bihar, was living in Chhalera village under the Sector 39 police station area.
Police said he was arrested, with illicit liquor found in his possession, around 10.30 pm Tuesday.
“A total of 39 quarters of Haryana-made alcohol was recovered… Later that night, his health suddenly started deteriorating and he fell unconscious. He was rushed to a district hospital, from where he was referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. He was declared dead by doctors there,” said an officer, adding that a case under the Excise Act was registered against the deceased.
“The body has been sent for a postmortem, which will reveal the actual cause of death. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered and action will be taken against anyone found guilty. Further legal action is being taken,” said the officer.
