DCP (North East) Joy Tirkey said a complaint has been received but an FIR is yet to be registered. "We are still investigating the allegations," he said.
A 15-year-old boy, the son of a shopowner in North East Delhi, was allegedly picked up by the police on Monday, taken to a police station, where he was accosted over his religious identity and beaten up by three policemen. The family has filed a complaint at the Karawal Nagar police station against the police personnel.
DCP (North East) Joy Tirkey said a complaint has been received but an FIR is yet to be registered. “We are still investigating the allegations,” he said.
His feet wrapped in bandages, the boy alleged that he was on his way to buy medicines when he was stopped by a policeman. “I got scared and took some time to stop my bike. He started abusing me and asked me to park my bike on the side. He then slapped me, saying that he knows what I am involved in,” he claimed.
His father alleged that he was taken to the police station where the policeman was joined by two others in assaulting the boy. The 15-year-old was finally let go after his neighbour arrived at the police station.
“My son could not contact me earlier. I reached home a few minutes after he reached home (from the police station). I called the PCR and we were taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital by the personnel. Around 12.30 am, I went to Karawal Nagar police station to file a complaint,” the father said. He added that along with the police station, he also visited the office of the DCP to submit a complaint.
