Kharge flags reserved vacancies in Central varsities, Pradhan hits back with UPA figures
Kharge said that 27 per cent of the teaching posts in 46 Central universities are lying vacant.
Accusing the government of “snatching away the rights of reservation of teachers” in Central universities, Kharge said that “out of the sanctioned 18,940 teaching posts in 46 Central universities, 27% are vacant”. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday targeted the government for “snatching away reservation rights” of Central university teachers, to which Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the “Congress party is in the habit of lying”.
Kharge said that 27 per cent of the teaching posts in 46 Central universities are lying vacant. Pradhan countered Kharge’s claim saying that “in 2024 as compared to 2014, the total number of vacant posts has decreased from 37% to 26.8% today”.
Accusing the government of “snatching away the rights of reservation of teachers” in Central universities, Kharge said that “out of the sanctioned 18,940 teaching posts in 46 Central universities, 27% are vacant”. Citing an RTI response, he said: “More than 38% of SC, ST, OBC reserved posts are lying vacant… SC: 32.1% vacant; ST: 40.3% vacant, OBC: 41.8% vacant,” said Kharge in a post on X.
Countering Kharge, Pradhan said: “…the truth is crystal clear. In 2014, during the Congress UPA government, there were 16,217 sanctioned posts in Central universities out of which 6,042 posts, i.e. 37% posts, were vacant. 57%, 63% and 60% posts of SC, ST and OBC were vacant…
The Modi government is rapidly filling all these posts by taking every section along. This is the reason that despite the increase in the number of sanctioned posts (18,940) in 2024 as compared to 2014, the total number of vacant posts has decreased from 37% to 26.8% today,” said the Union minister in a post on X, replying to Kharge.
