Four days after they were charged for having left a 13-year-old girl in confinement for almost a week while they were out holidaying in Bangkok, the doctor couple has applied for an anticipatory bail.
The couple, believed to be in Pattaya in Thailand, applied for bail on Monday at the Dwarka district courts. The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
The couple,Sanjay and Sumita Verma, was charged with torturing the girl who was brought to Delhi from Jharkhand reportedly by an uncle who promised her a job here. The child passed through four persons before finally being handed over to the couple, residing at B 2/6 Hahnemann Apartments, seven months ago.
According to police,in the bail application, they denied all charges levelled against them in the FIR filed by police based on the girls statement. The couple allegedly claimed that they treated the girl like their daughter and loved her a lot.
They also mentioned in the application that they had given the girl the choice to live with her parents which she refused saying that she was comfortable living with them, a police officer said.
The couple reportedly stated that the 13-year-old was brought home as a companion for their 11-year-old daughter.
Meanwhile, police who are clueless about the couples whereabouts, have issued a Look-Out Circular (LOC) against them. The couple was slated to arrive on Saturday morning at 10 am. However, after having learnt of the incident, they contacted their father in Vikaspuri saying they were delaying their return.
