“After some time, they asked me to pay Rs 4,11,242 to recover my deposited money, else I won’t be able to get it back. On January 6, I paid but did not get anything back,” claimed the woman.
A message that she received on a social media platform, which said she could earn money “while sitting at home and rating movies”, led to a woman being duped of more than Rs 12 lakh.
In her complaint, the woman, a resident of Noida’s Sector 74, claimed: “On January 5, I got a message (saying) I can earn money from home. They sent me a link.. and said I have to rate movies. They asked me to pay Rs 10,000 and click the link 30 times to get more money. Then, they added me to a group which had 25 members.”
She further said, “After some time, they again asked me to pay Rs 10,000. The people in the group said ‘this is a normal thing, you will get your money back’. After a while, they said I have got a ‘superior rating’ and I need to pay Rs 45,448 to get a bonus. After an hour, they again asked me to pay Rs 1,41,417 in the name of superior rating.”

Police said following her complaint, an FIR under Section 66D (punishment for cheating by personation by using computer resource) of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 has been registered against unknown persons and investigation is ongoing.
