The letter also mentioned that a case was pending against Dr Gupta and Dr Tyagi for unauthorised use of signatures and funds after their tenure expired.
The Delhi health department on Wednesday wrote to the Delhi Medical Council (DMC), seeking details on several allegations raised against its president Dr Arun Gupta, vice-president Dr Naresh Chawla, and registrar Dr Girish Tyagi, including financial misconduct and illegal continuation in office.
The deputy secretary (council) of the health department issued the letter after a complaint from North West Delhi MP Yogender Chandoliya, who alleged that Dr Tyagi had continued as DMC registrar beyond his legal term without proper authorisation, violating government norms and DMC regulations.
The letter said that Dr Tyagi has been receiving salary and withdrawing funds despite his term’s expiry.
Responding to the allegations, Dr Tyagi said that the matter related to his tenure extension is pending in court. “The matter is sub judice. I had taken permission from the Delhi government for extending my tenure,” he said.
The letter said that Dr Gupta and Dr Chawla initiated an unauthorised hiring process through advertisement and called for an interview for the deputy registrar post, bypassing due procedure, i.e. without prior approval of the council and the government. “And the interviews for the Post of Deputy Registrar scheduled for 24-25 February 2025. This hiring process and interview must be cancelled,” the letter said.
The letter also mentioned that a case was pending against Dr Gupta and Dr Tyagi for unauthorised use of signatures and funds after their tenure expired. “Dr Naresh Chawla has also been complicit in these actions, working closely with them in manipulating Council decisions,” it added.
