The India team displayed a good performance at the 9th Asian Lawn Bowls Championship at Kuala Lumpur by winning six medals,including a gold. The 12-nation event,held last week had teams from hosts Malaysia,Brunei,China,Hong Kong,Japan,Philippines,Singapore,Thailand,Sri Lanka,Pakistan and UAE.
A 14-member India team,comprising seven men and an equal number of women,participated in the week-long tournament,with the women winning five medals and one medal coming from mens section. In girls under-25 section,Nain Muni Saikia won the gold by defeating hosts Malaysia. In womens pair event,Manu Pal and Kavita won the silver medal while in triple section,the trio of Pinki,Farzana Khan and Lovely Chaubey clinched the silver medal,defeating Thailand. In womens fours event,the team comprising of Pinki,Farzana,Kavita and Manu Pal won the bronze medal by defeating Chinese players. Tania Chaudhary won the bronze in girls under-25 category. Sunil Bahadur clinched the gold in mens senior category,defeating a player from Philippines. Meanwhile,Sunaina Kumari,president of the Bowling Federation of India,was re-elected unopposed as vice-president of the Asian Lawn Bowls Federation.
