When Delhi’s Malik Sports Club took the field against Veer Arjun in the East Delhi Cricket Tournament, there was player who was a last minute entry. Kiran Adhav,a left arm spinner who plays Ranji cricket for Maharashtra was drafted in to play the game in the morning of the T20 game as Malik Sports Club did not have a credible spin option.
Adhav, who was in Delhi with a club team from Pune, was originaly slated to play against Malik Sports Club in an informal game. But instead, the spinner found himself turning out for them in an important game for the club. Adhav was by far the most senior player in the Malik eleven and the only one with first class experience in a side comprising mostly of players from Delhi and its outskirts.
The tweaker who has 51 first class scalps to his name said that he was surprised when he got the opportunity to play. I came to Delhi last night and today morning they just called me and asked if I would like to play for them, said Adhav. The 28-year-old who played his last first class game for Maharashtra in 2009-2010 season said that he was glad to have gotten a chance to play for the capital side. I have heard a lot about the Delhi club circuit and getting a chance to play with a good team was great, said Adhav.
However things did not go as planned on the field as Malik Sports Club were left to chase 203 runs in 20 overs. Adhav who picked up a wicket but gave away 38 runs in his four overs said that he was quite happy with his bowling but the lack of match practice went against him. I have not played competitive cricket for a month and it showed today,I got the ball to turn but I also conceded some fours and sixes. said the bowler.
Adhav who is a handy batsman also struck some blows for Malik although the target proved too much. Adhav scored an unbeaten 22 including two sixes and teammate Himmat Singh was quite impressed. He hits the ball very cleanly and his sixes were huge. said Singh
Malik Sports Club’s coach,Lokesh Malik said that Adhav’s presence definitely strengthened his team. Having a first class player is always a bonus and I am sure our young players must have learned a lot just by playing with Kiran.
Nakul Chopra, the team’s captain, said that he was hopeful of Adhav being available for more games. He is a quality spinner and we would love to have him play some more games for us. Adhav believes that his first experience in the Delhi club circuit has been interesting and said that he was hoping that he would get a chance to play a few more games for Malik Sports Club.
