A red Lamborghini allegedly hit two labourers working on a footpath, adjacent to an under-construction complex, in Noida’s Sector 94 on Sunday evening. The men sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital, said police, adding that the driver has been arrested.

A purported video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

It shows the red sports car hitting a tree on the median of the footpath, and workers wearing safety helmets and orange jackets running towards it.

One of them opens the door, and the man asks the driver, “Kya bhai stunt zyada seekh liye ho? (Brother, have you learnt a lot of stunts?)”
“Do you know how many people have died here?” he adds.

The driver, unfastening his seat belt, asks, “Koi mar gaya hai idhar? (Did anyone die here?)” “Call the police,” the man recording the video says.

The driver replies, “I gently pressed the accelerator,” to which the man retorts, “Did you press it gently?… You have been accelerating the car and reached here.”

Bhupendra Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector 126 police station, said the two injured labourers were admitted to Noida’s district hospital; they had suffered fracture in legs.

“They are out of danger. The men are Dijen Ravi Das, 40 and Rambhu Kumar, 50, both residents of Chhattisgarh. We have seized the car and taken the driver into custody,” the SHO said.

He said an FIR was registered based on a complaint by Ganga Ram, the son of one of those injured, under sections 281(rash driving) and 125(b)(endanger human life) of the BNS.

“Following the FIR, we arrested Deepak, a resident of Ajmer. Further investigation is underway,” said the SHO. Police said Deepak has a business selling cars.
