Lab technicians across the Capital stayed away from work for two hours on Monday,in protest against the absence of a statutory council representing them. They are also demanding better a pay-scale.

The demonstration was held under the banner of the Joint Forum of Medical Lab Technical Staff (JFMLT),a representative body of all laboratory staff in medical and research laboratories. Demonstrations will continue till Wednesday,Kaptan Singh Sehrawat, group convenor, said.

“The Pay Commission has overlooked the importance of nature of work, duties, responsibilities and importance of the medical lab technical staff. The representatives are demanding better pay-scales,promotional opportunities and allowances for this category. It’s also worth noting that laboratory staff has been demanding for an organised cadre and better promotion avenues but the government is not considering this matter seriously,” he said.
