Kings, demons and gods find a place in AAP’s attack on BJP

This is not the first time that both parties came to metaphoric blows through such posters; the last such instance was while both were in the midst of yet another political tussle over the goings-on in the MCD in late February.

A day after AAP’s Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj compared the imprisonment of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to the exile of Lord Ram, the party relied on mythology yet again, with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal referring to the tale of Hiranyakashyap and Prahlad.

“Hiranyakashyap had considered himself as God. He made many efforts to stop Prahlad from walking on the path of God, committed atrocities. Even today some people consider themselves as God. Prahlad, who served the country and children, was put in jail. But they could not stop Prahlad then, nor will they be able to stop him now,” Kejriwal wrote, ostensibly referring to his deputy Sisodia.

On Thursday, after being sworn in as cabinet minister, Bharadwaj had said: “Me and Atishi will take care of the work of Satyendar Jain and Manish Sisodia in the same way when Sri Ram was in vanvas and Bharat took care of his kingdom.”

Atishi said that the Centre has put Jain and Sisodia in jail in false cases but since the party has a responsibility towards citizens of Delhi, “we will take care of their roles”.

At a press conference on Friday, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh alleged that if a leader joined the BJP, they became “Raja Harishchandra”, synonymous with absolute adherence to the truth, while penal action is taken against leaders from other parties.

“The bigger the corrupt, the bigger the officer they become. This is the new slogan of the BJP. If you are a BJP leader, you are King Harishchandra,” he said.

The BJP, meanwhile, relied more on pop culture to attack the AAP.

On Friday, the BJP, which had taken to the streets to burn traditional Holikas symbolising the alleged scams perpetrated by the AAP government earlier this week, released its version of Sanjay Dutt-Govinda starrer ‘Jodi No. 1’ superimposing the faces of jailed AAP Ministers Satyendar Jain and Sisodia behind bars.

Later in the day, West Delhi BJP MP Parvesh Verma took to Twitter to share the poster released by the party’s state unit which read, “Produced by Arvind Kejriwal, in Tihar theatres now.”

This is not the first time that both parties came to metaphoric blows through such posters; the last such instance was while both were in the midst of yet another political tussle over the goings-on in the MCD in late February.

Both had found themselves on opposite ends of a perceptional brawl to set the reigning narrative regarding the Delhi High Court’s decision to stay re-elections to the all-powerful Standing Committee.
