Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday announced its support for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Arvind Kejriwal said he is “personally grateful” to TMC chief and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee for the support.
“TMC has announced support to AAP in Delhi elections. I am personally grateful to Mamata Didi. Thank you Didi. You have always supported and blessed us in our good and bad times,” Arvind Kejriwal wrote in a post on X.
In December, during a Mahila Adalat organized by AAP, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, an ally in the INDIA bloc, also announced his support for AAP in the Delhi elections. Both the Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress were key members of the INDIA bloc and fought the Lok Sabha elections together.
The 70-seat Delhi Assembly election will be held on February 5, 2025, with the counting of votes taking place on February 8, 2025.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday also took a jibe at senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, who called AAP the ‘vipaksh’ (opposition) at a Congress poll event in Delhi. Kejriwal said people believe the BJP and Congress are contesting the elections together against AAP.
“Shri Gehlot ji. You made it clear that AAP is the opposition to Congress in Delhi. You remained silent on BJP. People also felt that AAP is the opposition for Congress and BJP is its partner. People also believed that BJP and Congress are fighting the elections together against AAP,” Kejriwal said in a post on X. He added, “Till now this cooperation between you two was secret. Today you have made it public. Thank you on behalf of the people of Delhi for this clarification.”
Earlier, Gehlot said that AAP is now the opposition to Congress, and the situation in Delhi has changed. He added that Congress is running a stronger campaign this time, and the results will be different.
