Kazmi set free on Rs 2 lakh bail bond

Journalist Syed Mohammed Ahmad Kazmi,arrested by Delhi Police Special Cell in March for his alleged involvement in the attack on the car of an Israeli diplomat in February,was set free on bail on Saturday.

He walked out of Tihar Jail around 8.30 pm.

Kazmi,arrested in March,was told to furnish a bail bond of

Rs 2 lakh in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vidya Prakash.

The Supreme Court granted bail to Kazmi on Friday,setting aside the magistrate order that allowed the extension of his judicial custody.

Kazmi’s older sister Shahzad Fatima said the courts had finally “vindicated” her brother. “The truth always wins. My brother has not done anything wrong,and now the court has finally said that he should have been released earlier,” Fatima said.

The court has directed Kazmi to surrender his passport and not leave Delhi without court permission. He has also been directed to report to the Special Cell police station every fortnight.

At Kazmi’s Lodhi Colony home,at least a 100 police personnel stood guard to prevent any mishap as he returned around 10 pm.
