A city court on Monday refused to grant bail to sitting Haryana MLA Gopal Kanda,the main accused in an air-hostess suicide case,on the grounds that the trial was at a crucial stage and he was likely to influence the witnesses. Additional Sessions Judge M C Gupta held,…keeping in view the power,position and status of the accused,his mere presence at large,in circumstances of the case,is likely to intimidate and tamper with witnesses regarding which apprehension has also been expressed on behalf of the state. Kanda had surrendered in court after his bail expired on October 4 and had moved the court for extended bail on grounds that he had been falsely implicated.
Former sportsman found dead in Greater Noida
A 58-year-old former volleyball player was beaten to death at his Dadri residence in Greater Noida on Sunday night. Police said the player Feree Singhs son found the body. There are several wounds on Singhs body. It is likely that he was beaten with iron rods and sharp-edged weapons, an officer said. On the night of the incident,Singh,who lived with his family in Dujana Village and trained youngsters in volleyball,was at his Greater Noida home. His family members were also in the house. Preliminary investigations point to the possibility of personal enmity,police said.
Judicial custody of Tunda aides extended
A city court on Monday extended the judicial custody of three aides of Lashkar-e-Toiba bomb expert,Abdul Karim Tunda. The three were arrested for helping terrorists infiltrate into India to carry out strikes. The court sent Mohd Zakaria,Allaudin and Basiruddin to 14-day judicial custody on the grounds that the Special Cell of the Delhi Police was probing the case. The Special Cell had earlier alleged that the trio had assisted Tunda and several other Pakistani and Bangladeshi terrorists to enter India through Bangladesh to carry out terrorist strikes in 1997.
